A salmon conference will be held in Landau (Pfalz, Germany) from the 10th until 12th of May 2023.
The aim of the conference will be to make the salmon projects in the European Rhine catchment area and within Germany better known and to better link the involved persons. We have already planned lectures from several German federal states, from Switzerland, France, the Netherlands and Belgium. We look forward to many participants from management, science and the authorities. Of course, all other interested parties are also very welcome!
A project meeting of the „GeMoLaR“ project will take place on May 11th. Alternatively, a tour in Landau Zoo is offered by the zoo director during this time (in Engllish!). The zoo is only a few minutes‘ walk from the conference venue. The conference dinner on May 11th will take place in the new Restaurant Erdmännl directly on the zoo grounds.
The salmon is an iconic fish species in many European major river systems. Due to its anadromous migratory behavior and its high habitat requirements, it is an excellent indicator species for vital, ecologically well connected river systems. It is therefore particularly suitable as an „umbrella“ species: many species profit from its protection.
